Ashes

Ashes are what remain after a fire has consumed something.
Several years ago I got a tattoo of a phoenix on my shoulder. Now– before you judge me and condemn my soul to eternal fire for having a tattoo of a mythological creature on my body, just keep reading. Also, don’t “major in the minors” — this blog is not meant to start a debate on tats and mythological creatures. It is written to bring hope… I hope.
Several years ago I went through a time of self-inflicted tragedy. I took a torch from the fire and set my life ablaze — and not in a good way. When the torrent of the consuming flame finally died out, all that remained was ashes. Where life had once flourished, now only ash. Like walking through a home that had just burned down, I walked through my life only finding bits of broken and burnt pieces. All around me were ashes… and more ash. But although beaten and bruised, I gritted my teeth and rose from the ash heap with the help of those around me. It was hard and the process was long and grueling, but eventually faith rose from the ashes to ignite the phoenix.
This has been the hardest year of my life. I don’t say this to incite pity, but instead hope. I have had five funerals in the past couple months. Friends, sons and fathers have passed. Once again, I walk through the house and pick up the bits of broken and burnt pieces. I look around and see ash seemingly as far as I can see. My teeth are gritting… You know the rest.

Core, Crew, Crowd

Where we bring kingdom expansion, we bring kingdom blessing. As long as we are built on the foundation that is Jesus, Kingdom expansion is inevitable. There are many people in the body of Christ today that talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. They put on their make up and good clothes, go to church and pretend they don’t have mess. They envy after the brotherhood of the church, that team but you don’t get that brotherhood without sacrifice. You have to be willing to pay the price. How much of your talk are you willing to walk? There are three groups in the church. The first is the crowd. These people are like the 5,000 that Jesus fed. They are just part of the crowd. Members of the crowd come to receive something and that’s it. We need to begin to take what He’s given us and give it to others. We need to receive what Christ gives us but don’t let it stop there, we must pass it along. As you grow in your walk, church cannot simply be a refilling station. You’ve got to esta...

Action, Timing, Tenacity

God does not desire that the trials we face bring despair in our lives. God desires it brings about goodness and growth in our lives. God allowed the enemy to test Job but it wasn’t so that the enemy could test him. It was to put Job into a place so God could bless him the way He wanted. Now that doesn’t mean that sin takes place because it’s God’s will. Sometimes we’re stubborn enough that we need a little knock on the head. Jesus did not die on the cross for you to wander in the wilderness. It is time for you to enter into the promised land. When I come to the point in my spiritual maturity, enter into my place of kingdom purpose, there are still problems, but I know, good or bad, that God is there. There are many of us in the body of Christ who, we’re in church, but we haven’t crossed over the Jordan. We are still in the wilderness, wanting our tasty onions back in Egypt. It’s time for us to move on from Egypt. At some point we need to come to the realization that being in E...

Teamwork, Dream work

Teamwork is the only way the dream works. We need to begin to understand that when we go through the hard times, we are not alone. We do NOT stand alone. When we go through the hard times the first thing we want to do is step back. To take a break. Our dreams ought to be doing something, they ought to be working. Working dreams create the impossible, non-working dreams simply fade when you wake. I don’t want the destiny God has for me to vanish when I wake up. With work, dreams can come to pass. We can’t merely have a vision, we have to know where we are or we’ll never get to where we envision. We will not discover where we are if we have one perspective. A white, a black, a red, a yellow perspective. We must look from a Godly perspective. We live in a pagan world, any pagan perspective we bring to our starting point is already leading us the wrong way. You are first and foremost a child of God; we are held to a higher standard. In many ways the body of Christ is divided. We ha...
