A Trip to the Capital

This past week my daughter, Taylor, and I were blessed and honored to be invited to the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. by Congressman Richard Hudson. I must say, I did not realize that this breakfast is one of D.C.’s “hot-ticket” events. After doing some research, I became aware of what an honor we were being given.

I met Congressman Hudson a few months ago when he requested that someone open a local meeting in prayer. He asked our Mayor of Fayetteville at the time, Nat Robertson, to recommend someone, and I was honored to be the one invited. After meeting with the mayor and congressman, my eyes began to open to the realization that being a politician is a calling and we need more men and women of God in those positions. For those who know me, you know I absolutely do not preach politics or the news– not CNN, not FOX. Prior to this past week, I considered my close relationship with our former mayor to be an anomaly, and believed that having a good and godly man in office was rare. I now realize my conclusion was incorrect and my opinion has drastically changed. As I sat in the front row at the Prayer Breakfast next to my congressman and a table over from Ted Cruz, I stood amazed at how many great and godly men and women serve our country.  I spoke at great length with Mr. Hudson about God, our wives, our children and our churches. We talked about the men and women of God who have impacted our lives, as well as our children’s’ latest bumps and bruises. We talked about miracles we’ve seen and prayers that have been answered. Each of us shared our callings and the passion we have for what we do.  Later in the day, Dan Forrest, North Carolina’s Lieutenant Governor, stopped by and I was able to spend time talking to him as well.

After spending some time with these men, I stood in a bit of awe. Not because I was able to hang out with men of such great authority, but because of the realization that they are good, godly men AND they are politicians. The opportunity to attend the Prayer Breakfast has changed my mindset. I observed individuals of power– regardless of racial or ethnic origin, whether Republican, Democrat or undecided — come together, pray and intercede in the name of Jesus. Wherever His name is invoked, it brings life and hope. When I left the National Prayer Breakfast, I was filled with both.

Core, Crew, Crowd

Where we bring kingdom expansion, we bring kingdom blessing. As long as we are built on the foundation that is Jesus, Kingdom expansion is inevitable. There are many people in the body of Christ today that talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. They put on their make up and good clothes, go to church and pretend they don’t have mess. They envy after the brotherhood of the church, that team but you don’t get that brotherhood without sacrifice. You have to be willing to pay the price. How much of your talk are you willing to walk? There are three groups in the church. The first is the crowd. These people are like the 5,000 that Jesus fed. They are just part of the crowd. Members of the crowd come to receive something and that’s it. We need to begin to take what He’s given us and give it to others. Action, Timing, Tenacity

God does not desire that the trials we face bring despair in our lives. God desires it brings about goodness and growth in our lives. God allowed the enemy to test Job but it wasn’t so that the enemy could test him. It was to put Job into a place so God could bless him the way He wanted. Now that doesn’t mean that sin takes place because it’s God’s will. Sometimes we’re stubborn enough that we need a little knock on the head. Jesus did not die on the cross for you to wander in the wilderness. It is time for you to enter into the promised land. When I come to the point in my spiritual maturity, enter into my place of kingdom purpose, there are still problems, but I know, good or bad, that God is there. There are many of us in the body of Christ who, we’re in church, but we haven’t crossed over the Jordan. We are still in the wilderness, wanting our tasty onions back in Egypt. Teamwork, Dream work

Teamwork is the only way the dream works. We need to begin to understand that when we go through the hard times, we are not alone. We do NOT stand alone. When we go through the hard times the first thing we want to do is step back. To take a break. Our dreams ought to be doing something, they ought to be working. Working dreams create the impossible, non-working dreams simply fade when you wake. I don’t want the destiny God has for me to vanish when I wake up. With work, dreams can come to pass. We can’t merely have a vision, we have to know where we are or we’ll never get to where we envision. We will not discover where we are if we have one perspective. A white, a black, a red, a yellow perspective. We must look from a Godly perspective. We live in a pagan world, any pagan perspective we bring to our starting point is already leading us the wrong way. You are first and foremost a child of God; we are held to a higher standard.
